What Is Psychedelic Integration — and Why It Matters
A psychedelic experience can open doors: profound insights, emotional releases, a sense of connection, a fresh look at old wounds. But an insight alone doesn't change a life. Integration is the process of making sense of what happened — and weaving it into how you actually live.
Without integration, even the most beautiful experience can fade into a memory. With it, a single experience can become a genuine turning point.
Why the experience alone isn't enough
During a ceremony, the nervous system and the mind become unusually open and flexible. Old patterns loosen. But after the experience, daily life returns — with its habits, relationships, and pressures. If nothing is anchored, the old patterns reassert themselves within weeks.
Integration is the bridge: it takes the openness of the experience and turns it into new behaviors, boundaries, and choices.
What does integration look like in practice?
Integration is not one thing — it's a process tailored to you and your experience. In my work it typically includes:
- Making meaning: understanding what the experience showed you, in your own language
- Somatic grounding: helping the nervous system settle after an intense opening
- Working with what surfaced: grief, fear, or truth that came up and needs attention
- Concrete life changes: translating insight into decisions, conversations, and habits
When integration is especially important
Integration support matters most when an experience was challenging, confusing, or destabilizing — or when it touched on trauma. It's also valuable before an experience (preparation), so you go in with clear intention and realistic expectations.
I've guided individuals and groups through ceremonies and retreats internationally for years, and integration is where I see the deepest, most lasting transformation happen.
Frequently asked questions
How soon after an experience should integration start?
Ideally within the first days to weeks, while the experience is still alive and the nervous system is still open. That said, it's never too late — even experiences from years ago can be integrated.
Do you provide psychedelic substances or ceremonies?
Yes — I offer legal psilocybin (magic truffle) ceremonies and retreats in the Netherlands, where they are fully legal. Beyond that, I also offer preparation and integration support, whether or not you join a ceremony with me. My work focuses on helping you make sense of your experience and turn it into lasting change.

Challenging experiences often hold the most potential for growth — but they shouldn't be navigated alone. Integration work helps you process what happened safely and find the meaning in it.
